Tucked in down a busy laneway is the newfound gem of Turramurra; ‘Holi Crop’. Owner Himi Makhija’s vision was to open a plant-based café and a small batch bakery, also serving purpose driven specialty coffee. With rendered walls, hand-hewn tables and earthy tones, the cafe offers a welcoming, calm space for the community to sojourn to, away from the hustle and bustle of the main street. Holi Crop was opened with the simple concept of living and eating consciously. A well thought out plant-based menu, of which everything is made from scratch using seasonal and organic produce, makes for a delicious assortment bound to please all. Making a point of using local and sustainable suppliers such as Five Senses Coffee, Wholegrain Milling Co, Hrvst St, Herbs of Life and Organic Tea Project, Holi Crop looks to connect local producers to the community.

Boasting a menu of entirely vegetarian, contemporary Indian food & a fully operational bakery, Holi Crop has a lot to offer those that walk past its cosy pocket windows. Some of the most popular dishes on the menu include Ras Malai Porridge; inspired by a popular Indian desert, and Spiced Scrambled Eggs, inspired by Himi’s own mother's masala eggs. From the bakery, popular treats include Chai Spiced buns, upside-down orange & almond cake, and fruit filled almond croissants. It's pretty clear spices play a big part here, so flavour is paramount.

Alongside these menu items is a glorious retail section, allowing a take home bunch of Holi Crops goodies like their house-made Chainola (chai spiced granola) which is a Gluten Free Orange & Maple Granola sold in refillable jars, Chilli Paste and Fermented pickles like Kimchi, Kraut, Zucchini Pickle, & fermented Chilli & Lime Hot sauce, which has fast become a staff favourite when visiting. Of course, there are bags of Five Senses Coffee available as well to take home to brew till your heart’s content.

They also have handmade ceramics made by David Collins in Berry and there will be Christmas sweet boxes to follow for the month of December.

Holi Crop’s coffee offering is high-end simplicity, running Five Senses own ‘Crompton Road’ through a stunning all white Mythos One and Synesso MVP Hydra combo, the perfect pairing to extract beautiful milk chocolate, caramel coffee’s to serve up next to any and all of Holi Crop’s delightful pastries. These two titans are paired with an Mahlkonig EK so that Himi and his team can rotate through seasonal offerings of single origins & some tasty batch brew as well.

As we head into summer, Holi Crop will be serving up all of the above over seven days a week from 6am to 3pm M-F, 6:30am to 3pm Sat and 7:30am to 1pm Sunday. They will be closing in the new year from 1st to the 15th Jan 2023.
